  • 30 July - Signature of the contract for licence production of the SA 330L Puma helicopter by IAR Brasov under the local designation IAR-330L Puma.

  • The Giat Industries THL 20 light turret has been selected by Elbit Systems to equip the Romanian Air Force IAR-330L Puma helicopters which are being converted within the SOCAT upgrade program.
  • June - Display of IAR-330L Puma SOCAT 28 at the Paris Airshow.
 
   
 
    1998
  • 26 May - First flight of the IAR-330L Puma SOCAT 1st prototype PT1. The flight took place at a ceremony held in Brasov and was attended by representatives of the Romanian government, Romanian Ministry of National Defence, local officials, IAR and Elbit Systems' representatives as well as Romanian defence companies.
  • September - Display of the IAR-330L Puma SOCAT helicopter at the Farnborough Airshow. PT1 was presented both in static display and in-flight demonstration.

  • June - Display of IAR-330L Puma SOCAT 28 at the Paris Airshow.
  • 23 October - First flight of the IAR-330L Puma SOCAT 2nd prototype PT2.
  • 26.10.-30.10. - The Romanian Ministry of National Defence, IAR Brasov and Elbit Systems exhibited at the EXPOMIL 1999 in Bucharest the IAR-330L Puma SOCAT helicopters PT1 in static display and PT2 in demonstration flight.
 
   
 
    2000
  • 22 December - Eurocopter Vice-President Dr. Siegfried Sobotta and IAR Brasov President Neculai Banea have signed an agreement to create Eurocopter Romania. The signature of the Memorandum of Understanding coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Eurocopter - IAR Brasov cooperation for helicopter manufacturing, overhaul and repair started in 1970 with the Alouette III program.
 
   
 
    2001
  • June - Display of IAR-330L Puma SOCAT 41 at the Paris Airshow.
  • 21 June - According to the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in Brasov on December 22nd, MM. Jean-Francois Bigay, President and CEO of Eurocopter and Neculai Banea, President of IAR Brasov, have signed the Shareholders Agreement of Eurocopter Romania.
  • 16 August - The crew of a Romanian Air Force IAR-330L Puma SOCAT helicopter survived when it crashed, shortly after take-off from Boteni-Titu Air Base. It was the first of the upgraded aircraft to have crashed.
 
   
 
    2002
  • 01.03.-15.03. - NATO exercise "Strong Resolve". First deployment of Romanian Air Force IAR-330L Puma SOCAT helicopters under NATO command.
  • September - Firing trials of the Spike-ER extended range anti-tank missile launched from PT2.
  • December - Starting repair and overhaul works of six former South African Air Force SA 330L Puma helicopters (serialled 144, 148, 169, 172, 173 and 184) at the company's Brasov plant.

  • Delivery of four IAR-330L Puma helicopters to Ivory Coast.
  • February - Starting activities for IAR-330L Puma SM conversion and upgrading program related to export contract.
  • 06.11.-09.11. - Display of IAR-330L Puma SOCAT 65 at the EXPOMIL 2003 in Bucharest.
 
   
 
    2004
  • 06 July - Eurocopter Romania has completed refurbish and overhaul of the first of six former South African Air Force SA 330L Pumas acquired by the Royal Air Force. The helicopter ZJ954 was handed-over at the company's Brasov plant. All six helicopters were purchased in early 2002 as attrition replacements and will be serialled ZJ954-ZJ959.
 
   
 
    2005
  • 04 January - A detachment of Baza 90 left from airbase Otopeni with four IAR-330L Puma SOCAT helicopters to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The following months, it will be part of the European Union led mission EUFOR (European Union Force) under the name of mission "Althea". The four IAR330 Puma SOCAT are based at the EUFOR camp at Banja Luka in the heart of Northern Republika Srpska.
  • March - The Romanian Air Force has accepted into service four IAR-330L Puma transport helicopters modified for medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) duties.
  • 09 June - Delivery of the last of 25 IAR-330L Pumas to be upgraded to SOCAT configuration by IAR Brasov to the Romanian Air Force.
    The helicopter involved, 28 (c/n 40), was the SOCAT prototype and made its first flight on May 26, 1998. As such it had been retained as a development aircraft until being brought up to full operational standard before delivery.

  • 03 July - Elbit Systems announced that it has been awarded two contracts to upgrade IAR-330L Puma helicopters of the Romanian Air Force and Navy in co-operation with the Romanian aircraft manufacturer IAR Brasov.
    Under one contract, Elbit Systems will supply enhanced avionics and night flying systems for Romanian Air Force helicopters to upgrade them to NATO standards. Elbit Systems and IAR Brasov have also decided to jointly market similar upgrade programmes to other potential customers.
    Under the second contract, Elbit Systems will work with IAR Brasov to upgrade Romanian Navy helicopters, marking Elbit's first successful bid to upgrade maritime helicopters.

  • 13 July - The first IAR-330L Puma Navy helicopter entered the Romanian Navy service.
 
   
 
    2010
  • 21 April - The first four ex-UAE Air Force Pumas upgraded to IAR-330SM standard were officially handed-over to the Lebanese Air Force.
