The construction number format of PZL‑Świdnik built Mi‑2 helicopters is VV BB NN MMY where:
VV is the basic version of the rotorcraft:
51 = transport and liaison version
52 = agricultural version
53 = passenger version
54 = dual controls / training version
55 = search and rescue version
56 = military / armed version
BB (BBB in case of a ten digit construction number) is the production batch number.
NN is the number within the production batch.
MM is the month of production.
Y is the year of production.

The construction number is pressed into a metal plate which is to be found on the right side of the cockpit instrument panel. The construction number is easily readable also from the outside.


Normally the contruction number is additionally painted on both sides of the tail boom. Both on civil and military aircraft.
